I got an interview! Instead of a “thanks for your interest, we’re not hiring” email, I got a “Get here as soon as possible, we want to talk to you” email!
Minor drawback, I badly wanted to move to the PNW, but this firm is in the booming metropolis that is Wichita, Kansas.
(edit: I should clarify, I grew up in Wichita)
It’s a good firm though, and Wichita is cheap.

My folks lived in Wichita a couple years and I visited a few times. Not my favorite place because it's big/flat, open and gridlike, but being in the geographical center of the contiguous US means you can get to a lot of places within a day's drive or flight. And like most second-tier cities, there's always a lot of stuff to do without being overcrowded, and usually some downtown revitalization/gentrification going on. It's been a while for me, though.

Congrats! Hopefully it goes through.

I’m originally from Wichita, both my parents graduated from WSU. Low flying Cessnas are less disruptive than the low flying Chinooks and artillery fire I’ve lived with at KSU.

Congrats! Would take a really sweet deal for me to move to Wichita, though.

Good luck on the interview. My favorite science on the state is the proof that Kansas is indeed flatter than a pancake.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The topographic transects of both Kansas and a pancake at millimeter scale are both quite flat, but this first analysis showed that Kansas is clearly flatter (see Figure 4).
Mathematically, a value of 1.000 would indicate perfect, platonic flatness. The calculated flatness of the pancake transect from the digital image is approximately 0.957, which is pretty flat, but far from perfectly flat. The confocal laser scan showed the pancake surface to be slightly rougher, still.
Measuring the flatness of Kansas presented us with a greater challenge than measuring the flatness of the pancake. The state is so flat that the off-the-shelf software produced a flatness value for it of 1. This value was, as they say, too good to be true, so we did a more complex analysis, and after many hours of programming work, we were able to estimate that Kansas’s flatness is approximately 0.9997. That degree of flatness might be described, mathematically, as “damn flat.”

Simply put, our results show that Kansas is considerably flatter than a pancake.

Congrats!
And hey, if you landed an interview in Wichita, there’s got to be some idiot in Seattle or Portland willing to give you a shot as well.

When in doubt, sleep with the boss’ progeny. Always a good decision.*

I feel you on that. That, and there being tons of job openings for 3-5 years of experience, but no entry level positions.

Based on the photo I can only assume the Dr. Evil is hiring henchmen. Best of luck with the interview and if a steamroller is coming towards you slowly, don’t try to be a hero.

That’s Exploration Place in Wichita. It’s a science museum for kids, it’s also the reason I’m an Architect.

Good luck. Once you have a job and some experience, getting another job to relocate becomes a LOT easier.

As a fellow Archi that got out of the field, good luck man! What firm is it with?

It looks imposing from this angle. The grey skies really give it a foreboding feel as a proper evil supervillians lair should have.
Living in the snow belt where code calls for designing to 100 psf snow load I can’t help but look at that roof and think it just isn’t going to work.

And it isn’t as flat as Florida.
